my super-son academia*bnh (premise)

This begins as the story of a young man (shonen) without powers in a world where 99% of the world’s population has powers or some kind of unique trait, a “quirk”.

A world without The Greatest hero in the galaxy- if not the universe: Who died on the same exact day as his late father.

The era of gods has passed, the reign of monsters has come to fill the power vacuum.

The young man’s name is simply “Izuku Midoriya”, his middle name is rarely spoken & only by his mother, Inko.

Much like the canon, his goal is to be a “hero” but not the title or prestige of a “Hero” according to the state, he seeks to use the school to sharpen himself to actually serve as a genuine hero like All Might; he doesn’t want to emulate his father, the connection isn’t there but admiration remains.

Izuku attempts to enter U.A., a prestigious school for the superpowered again (he was given an opportunity to take the entrance exam early due to his academia marks; and failed the first time. Caving -in to the time constraints).

Sheer grit, wit , and a hint of luck survived him the entrance exam the 2nd time.

He & his longtime bully ”Bakugou” have unresolved tension. Izuku fought him on their last day of Junior High and now by sheer chance they’re in the same exact class of High School. Bakugou still hates him, and Izuku is more than ready for round 2, even if it means another beatdown.

The rest of the class seems ok, Izuku is especially interested in “Ochako”, a blunt but easy going girl that befriended him just before the entrance exam. Her power is interesting to Izuku: “Be sure to ask her about it”, he notes.

Iida, a stand-offish older kid; the kind of person to get triggered if you don’t recycle a bottle cap.

Izuku impressed him by virtue of somehow entering the school without powers or display of abilities; and now admires him for going back for Ochako when it mattered most in the heat of the exam’s climax. Hoping that he learns from Izuku- how to be a better “warrior & gentleman”, as he puts it.

Izuku was raised by his mother & indirectly by his Uncle, a reclusive American man whom Izuku knows as a deep, stern but assuring voice over the phone.

He was raised old school; because of this, he’s slightly agitated by the school’s, moreso Japan’s very warped definition of what a “hero” is, society’s profession title being conflated with the responsibility of being a “Hero”.

As stated, he still desires to be like All Might, whom he sees to be the truest living paragon of the definition of the word: “Hero”, very much reminding him of how his mother described his late father. All Might is (still) the primary reason Deku wants to attend U.A.

His uncle has been in touch for years, more than an average uncle; after hearing Izuku’s interest in U.A., the boy was put on articulate training regimens, and various tips on hand to hand training by his mother. Which seems odd, because of her appearance.

Despite being non-threatening, she’s more adept & knowledgeable of fighting than she looks, maybe she was a cop in her former life.

*This extra prep & training is the only reason he was able to sock Bakugou in the face.

Deku is no chosen one, he’s not destined to do anything, he wasn’t chosen to wield any power & still somehow won the lottery in this timeline; his father was a B-Class reporter and he doesn’t even know what his mother used to do. The other half of what his father was is not even something he could tell his best-friends (if he had any) and just because his father was amazing, it doesn’t mean he is or will be- anything. He’s content with taking the hero course as a quirkless.

It’s not pressure to perform, he’s made up his mind, he’ll be his own hero but things don’t always play out as planned. A lifetime of being the living embodiment of mediocrity in a universe where everyone is special, comes with it’s own pain. Especially when his male progenitor would’ve been considered the most exceptional person in the universe, someone whom he only hears about from Inko, and scarcely sees through old footage on the internet.

 The ultimate irony.

Deku, the “nobody”. Izuku, the lovable crybaby. What could he or his “stupid notebook” do against a city-level villain? As Bakugou put it.

If Deku & his notebook could beat a city-level villain by exploiting a possible peanut allergy, then that’s what he decided he would do; with or without the title of “Hero” Izuku wants to be someone’s hero, anyone’s hero: “Save one, save the world.”

Izuku was not ready for the journey life had in store for him; while his fear of failure caused doubt, it didn’t mean he was too scared to try.

The darkest avatar of evil was silenced almost 20 years ago, now another has come to take his place; The “All For One”.

This isn’t the story about “everyone” becoming the greatest heroes, this isn’t the story about a demon lord — This is the story of how Izuku K. Midoriya became the world’s greatest hero.
